ASSIST(Additional Student Support and Inclusive Services Team)

The aim of ASSIST is to cater for the learning needs of all students by directing support to different levels of need.

ASSIST is comprised of two teams:

Focused Teaching Team

  •  HOD Literacy and Numeracy, ASSIST
  • Teacher Aides

Intensive Support Team

  •  Guidance Officer
  •  Learning support teachers
  •  Inclusion Support Teacher (students with disabilities)
  • School-based Youth Health Nurse
  • External agencies

Three layers provide a continuum of support with increasingly focused and personalised teaching and intervention at each successive layer:

Differentiation

Teachers provide differentiated teaching and curriculum and explicit instruction to respond to the particular leaning needs of all students.

Focused teaching

Focused teaching gives students the opportunity to revisit key concepts and/or skills and provides additional opportunities for students to practise skills and achieve the intended learning. Focused teaching is aligned to the class program and is planned by the teacher and delivered by a teacher aide.

Intensive support

Intensive support may be required for students who continue to perform substantially below, or above, year level expectations across the curriculum. Intensive support is collaboratively planned and delivered by teachers and learning support teachers.

Parents are to contact their child’s contact teacher to request focused teaching or intensive support.
