2016 Cairns Languages Speaking Competition

2016 Cairns Languages Speaking Competition

The Cairns Languages Speaking Competition is an educational event organized by members of the Peninsula Branch of the Modern Languages Teachers Association of Queensland Inc.

The Competition is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their ability in Language learning and represent their school community.

Students studying a Language at school from Years 4 to 12 are eligible to enter. Schools may enter up to 4 students per year level per language.
2016 saw a total of approx. 480 students present speeches across four languages; Japanese, Chinese, French and Italian.

The objectives of the competition are to promote and encourage the study of foreign languages and cultures in the Cairns region.
As the region of Cairns continues to develop cross-country links in trade, business and education and as communication between countries, including our Asian neighbours, increases, the need to be able to share information in languages and have a cultural understanding of the people with whom they are dealing provides an added advantage to young people.
