Eco-Schools Australia Program

Eco-Schools Program

Eco-schools is a proven schools-based sustainability education program operating in 60+ countries globally and developed by Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) based in Denmark.  Eco-Schools is a curriculum linked, democratic and participatory program that provides an excellent opportunity for students to experience active citizenship in their schools.  Both schools and the wider community can benefit from this program.

Cairns School of Distance Education is pleased to announce our registration with this global program. We are the only school in all of North Queensland to gain registration. With our world-class tropical environment, we have unique opportunities to investigate active citizenship through sustainability in our school curriculum. This will enable our school to promote continual improvement in the environmental management of the school, complemented by curriculum development and whole school community involvement.

The initial phase will be to establish an Eco-Committee of students, a group of enthusiastic, environmentally-conscious future leaders to drive the program in our school and wider community. The Eco-committee will include representatives from all phases of learning at our school and will be comprised of members elected to represent the whole school and wider community interests.  Members will attend meetings once per term and lead sustainability initiatives with the support of the whole school.

If you are interested in nominating for this committee, please   get in touch with Lesley Brook, eco-schools co-ordinator by email
