Rain wins the day for bush poet Kurt

Cairns School of Distance Education Year 4 student Kurt has won two poetry competitions with his poem The Wet Season.

Kurt entered his poem in the Write4Fun Write As Rain competition and has now been published in the anthology Write As Rain.

He also entered this poem in the Waltzing Matilda Bush Poetry Awards – Little Swaggies Award, in which he received first place in the Year 4 category.

Write4Fun encourages young authors and artists by recognising quality work through their publications like the anthology Write As Rain.

The Little Swaggies Award is a bush poetry competition that considers rhyme, rhythm, content, structure and storyline when judging poems.

Twelve schools participated in the Waltzing Matilda Bush Poetry Awards this year.

Kurt explained his poem: “One afternoon earlier in the year when it was storming, I wrote this poem. “I was lucky enough to have my poem published in a huge book of poems called Write As Rain.

“I also won first place for Year 4 in the Waltzing Matilda Little Swaggies Poetry competition. We can only hope this year’s wet season is coming very soon!”

Congratulations Kurt.
