Blackboard Collaborate Update

8/11/2016

Due to a recent Department of Education upgrade to the Collaborate platform, there will be small change to the way that students access their online lessons.

The department has moved the Collaborate system to a new Cloud based environment. This is a positive move as it will provide a more stable online platform (less outages) as well as remove the need to have a specific version of Java installed.

For students using Windows, a new Collaborate launcher will need to be downloaded. This program is around 45mb in size. Once installed, students will access their lessons in a similar manner to the existing method. They will log on to their Blackboard course and then go to the “Collaborate Lessons” tab. From here, students will click on their lesson and then click the “Join Room” button.

For students on MAC computers, the existing launcher will work with the new system. Lessons will be accessed in the same manner as described above.

We will commence the rollout of the new system during weeks 7 and 8. Class teachers will inform students of these changes and provide instructions on how to install the launcher and join the sessions

All classes will be moved by the 18th of November, when the iConnect page shuts down.

Please rest assured that Cairns SDE will provide instructions and support to all students, parents, carers and tutors during this change.

If you have any questions please email Leigh Howser lhows3@eq.edu.au Or Jim Buzacott jbuza1@eq.edu.au
