Students enrolled at a Queensland School who are unable to access a subject of choice are welcome to enrol at the Cairns SDE. The student's base school must submit the enrolment form.
The criteria for eligibility are
the school does not offer the subject.
the school offers the subject, but the school’s timetable does not allow the student to study the subject at their base school.
the student has commenced study in the subject in a previous school and wishes to continue their course of study.
For enrolment into all subjects, the base school is to provide the student's report card which shows results for the previous semester. If the student has not previously studied the subject they must meet any prerequisite requirements as well as demonstrate success in all areas of study.
In the case of Language subject enrolments, students may also be required to complete a Language Diagnostic Test to ensure appropriate year level placement.
Subject fees may apply (please see the School Based Learners Price List for individual subject fees). These fees are payable by the base school.
