At Cairns School of Distance Education our junior secondary phase of learning caters for students in Years 7 to 9.
Cairns SDE follows the National Curriculum in the subject areas of English, Mathematics, Science, History and in Semester 2, Geography.
Research throughout Australia has identified the unique challenges students experience in the transition from the lower middle years into the upper middle years. Our junior secondary phase has a focus on providing support for students as they progress through these pivotal years. During this period of educations, physical and social development that will see such significant changes, our aim is a transition that provides a cohesive pathway into the senior secondary phase of learning.
At Cairns SDE the basic framework of Year 7 will look very much like Year 8. Students will be required to study four core subjects plus a language, and two introductory subjects each semester. This approach will, hopefully, ensure that by the time they reach Year 9, students will have a clear idea of what to specialise in for their fifth elective subject.
