Hi, my name is Sally and I am Cairns School of Distance Education's School Based Youth Health Nurse (SBYHN). I am at Cairns SDE every Monday and alternate Thursdays. My office is located in the Open Learning Campus. Please don't hesitate to contact me via phone or email.
The SBYHN program is funded by Queensland Health. The objectives include improving access to health information, advice, support and referral to relevant government and non-government services for young people, their families and the wider school community including staff.
The program also focuses on early identification, prevention and brief intervention activities. It supports school communities to develop and maintain a holistic approach to health, through supporting the curriculum and teaching health related topics.
I am available for student consultations (which are confidential) and will refer to specialist support agencies if necessary, or provide health information or advice. I am also available for curriculum support, identifying resources and to help implement health promotion/education sessions within the classroom environment.
I can talk to you and provide health and wellbeing information about:
- healthy eating and physical activity
- feeling unhappy or stressed
- healthy skin
- personal and family problems personal and family problems
- growth and development
- sexual health
- smoking, alcohol and other drugs
I look forward to supporting you and your families. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any students health concerns.
