The Premier's Coding Challenge is an annual state-wide initiative for all Queensland students in Years 3 - 10. The Premier's Coding Challenge aims to encourage an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Queensland students.

The theme for 2023 is #digitalinnovationqld. Students are aware of the challenges that they face each and every day and the ones which are impacting on their lives and others. They are living in a world where technologies enrich and impact on the lives of people and societies globally. This year, all Queensland students in Years 3–10 are invited to help create change by examining real-world problems and responding with an innovative digital solution.

The challenge in 2023 is to develop an interactive digital solution to create change in your local community or beyond.

Students could address topics such as:

making everyday activities easier
being safe online
healthy living
cultural awareness and inclusion
supporting an ageing population
social justice awareness
preserving, revitalising and supporting local language
transportation
reducing organic waste
creating a sustainable future

Students can develop an app, game or website and they must also submit a short video to explain and evaluate their entry.

Students can enter as individuals or pairs in 1 of 8 categories. Examples from previous winners will be available soon.

Winners will receive prizes of coding and robotic kits (total prize pool $10,000), attend an awards ceremony and engage with tech experts to develop their talent and awareness of future pathways.

As detailed on EDTV Digital Technologies – An introduction to coding@home TV External link available on the department's YouTube channel External linkcoding@homeTV External link guides students through a design process to create an entry for the 2023 Premier's Coding Challenge with a focus on the new theme of digital futures.
